What is the main purpose of the Saybolt Viscometer in bitumen and asphalt testing?
The Saybolt Viscometer is designed to determine the empirical flow resistance (Saybolt Furol or Saybolt Universal viscosity) of petroleum products, cutback asphalt, and emulsified asphalt at specified temperatures. Saybolt Furol Viscosity (SFS): Uses a larger orifice for thicker materials like asphalt binder and emulsified asphalt (typically tested at 25 or 50℃). Saybolt Universal Viscosity (SUV): Uses a smaller orifice for lighter petroleum oils and cutbacks.
