What is the clock spring ?

An airbag clock spring is used to connect the steering wheel to other electrical devices such as the airbag safety system, radio volume and station selections, horn and cruise controls. A clock spring can become faulty when wires become worn and break causing a short or open circuit. This can cause the airbag warning light to come on. Horn, radio controls and cruise controls can also stop as well.

How do you install an airbag clock spring?

Set the front wheels straight ahead.

Turn the clock spring clockwise until it stops.

Turn the clock spring counterclockwise 2.75 turns.

Align the mark on the clock spring with the mark on the outer housing.

Install the SAS module and the steering wheel by installing or connecting the following.
