• OTDR Testing Fiber Optic Launch Cable (also known as a pulse suppressor, dead zone eliminator, or fiber ring) is a critical testing component placed between the Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) and the fiber under test (FUT).
• It provides a known reference spool of fiber that shifts the OTDR’s initial dead zone completely into the launch box, allowing the technician to accurately measure the insertion loss and reflectance of the first near-end connector pair.
• Corning SMF-28 (specifically the SMF-28 Ultra variant) is an industry-standard, full-spectrum single-mode optical fiber.
• A Corning® SMF-28® Ultra Optical Fiber Launch Cable is a specialized pulse suppressor and test lead used with an OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) to measure the insertion loss and reflectance of the first and last connectors in a fiber optic link.
