Roots Blower Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages

1. Stable air output
    
   As a positive displacement equipment, its flow rate is barely affected by pressure changes. The air volume stays constant when the rotating speed remains unchanged, delivering steady gas supply within the rated pressure range.
2. Simple structure & low maintenance cost
    
   The overall mechanical structure is compact with few vulnerable parts. The unit runs with slight vibration and boasts a long service life, bringing convenient daily maintenance.
3. Oil-free gas conveying
    
   There is no oil mixing in the delivered medium, which meets the high cleanliness requirements of aquaculture, food processing and sewage aeration.
4. High cost performance
    
   Its purchase cost is only about 1/5 of magnetic levitation blowers, which is more economical for small and medium-sized factories with medium and low pressure working conditions.
5. Wide adaptability
    
   It can transport air, inert gas and other media, and is applicable to sewage aeration, pneumatic conveying, aquaculture oxygenation and many other industries.

Disadvantages

1. Large airflow pulsation and high noise
    
   Especially for two-lobe Roots blowers, periodic gas extrusion will produce obvious pulsation noise. Silencers, sound insulation covers and shock absorbers usually need to be installed additionally. Three-lobe models can reduce noise but cannot eliminate it completely.
2. Poor efficiency under high pressure
    
   The blower has no internal compression process, and gas is pressurized entirely by pipeline backpressure. When the working pressure rises to a high level, power consumption increases sharply and overall operating efficiency declines obviously.
3. Limited pressure range
    
   It is mostly suitable for low and medium pressure working conditions. If used under ultra-high pressure for a long time, the temperature rise of the unit will be serious, and the failure risk of gears and seals will increase.
4. Large heat generation during long-time operation
    
   Continuous forced gas pushing causes temperature rise of the casing, so cooling and heat dissipation measures need to be matched for long-term continuous operation.
