What is a Punch Press Air Spring?
A punch press air spring is an elastic element used inside a stamping die. It's essentially a sealed chamber filled with high-pressure gas.
Its core operating principle: It uses compressed, high-pressure gas to store energy and provide a controllable, powerful spring force.
Main Functions in a Punch Press Air Spring
- Providing Pressing/Ejecting Force: During the stamping process, an air spring is installed in the upper or lower die. When the punch press slide drives the upper die downward, the air spring is compressed, increasing the gas pressure within it, thereby providing a continuous and powerful counteracting force on the press plate or stripper plate.
- Balancing Die Weight: For large, heavy upper dies, air springs provide an upward support force, counterbalancing the die's own weight.
- Providing Adjustable Spring Force: By adjusting the gas pressure, the spring force can be easily varied to accommodate sheet metal of varying thicknesses and materials.
- Ensuring Smooth Movement: The force provided by air springs remains relatively constant throughout the entire stroke, resulting in smoother slide movement.
