Application of Industrial Air Springs in Filter Presses
Application of Industrial Air Springs in Filter Presses
In traditional filter presses, the hydraulic system is the core component providing the plate packing force. It generates tremendous pressure through hydraulic cylinders, compressing the filter plates together to form a closed filter chamber, preventing leakage during high-pressure pumping.
Air springs replace or supplement traditional hydraulic cylinders, providing stable, adjustable pressure on the filter plate pack.
How Air Springs Work in Filter Presses
Replacing Hydraulic Systems (Fully Pneumatic Filter Presses):
In this design, the filter press completely eliminates the need for hydraulic stations, cylinders, and complex oil circuits.
One or more large industrial air springs are installed on each side between the thrust plate and the pressure plate of the filter press.
These air springs are charged with high-pressure gas (typically 0.6-0.8 MPa) through compressed air lines.
The air springs expand, generating a tremendous thrust that acts directly on the pressure plate, compressing the entire filter plate pack.
To unload the filter plates, simply release the pressure in the air spring, causing the spring to contract and the hold-down plate to retract, allowing the filter plates to be easily pulled apart for unloading.
Auxiliary Hydraulic System (Combined Air-Hydraulic Compression):
In some designs, the air spring works in conjunction with a small hydraulic cylinder.
The hydraulic cylinder is responsible for rapidly advancing and retracting the hold-down plate, completing the "stroke" action.
When the filter plates are closed, the air spring inflates, providing a final, stable, and sustained "holding" force. This relieves the hydraulic system, saving energy and reducing wear and heat during the hold-up period.
