Applications of Flange-Type Air Springs in Vehicles

Flange-type air springs are suspension air springs with flange structures at both the upper and lower end caps. They are typically rigidly fixed between the vehicle frame and axle using bolts. This connection method is more robust than clamp or plug-in types and is particularly suitable for vehicles subjected to heavy loads and strong vibrations and impacts. In the overall vehicle layout, they are mainly installed on both sides of the drive axle or driven axle, serving as the core load-bearing and buffering element between the axle and the frame, directly bearing the weight of the vehicle and absorbing impact loads from the road surface.

In buses, flange-type air springs are often used in the middle and rear axle positions. Combined with a height control valve, they can achieve automatic leveling and a "kneeling" function. When the bus enters a station, the system controls the flange air springs to quickly deflate, lowering the vehicle body on the door side for easier passenger boarding and alighting; after starting, it quickly inflates again to restore the normal driving height. Due to the high rigidity and positioning accuracy of the flange connection, this type of air spring effectively ensures structural stability and service life under frequent raising and lowering conditions.

In trucks and trailers, flange-type air springs are primarily used in air suspension systems to replace traditional leaf springs, providing flexible support and height adjustment under heavy loads. During loading and unloading, the rear height of the vehicle can be adjusted by inflating or deflating the air springs, ensuring the vehicle floor is level with the loading platform, significantly improving logistics efficiency. Furthermore, the flange structure is less prone to shifting or loosening under heavy loads and prolonged high-frequency vibration, making it particularly suitable for long-distance transport and port container transport vehicles.

In terms of performance, flange-type air springs significantly improve vehicle ride comfort and structural protection while maintaining high load-bearing capacity. They effectively reduce impact stress on the axle housing, frame, and cargo box, minimizing metal fatigue and component loosening caused by vibration, thereby extending the service life of the entire vehicle suspension system and body structure. This is a key reason for their widespread adoption in the heavy-duty commercial vehicle sector.
