What is an air spring strut?
It may also be called an air spring, air shock absorber, suspension rubber air spring or bellows. Traditional struts use steel coil springs, but air struts use air spring pockets or bellows. This makes the ride more comfortable and gives the driver more control over the ride height. The most common cause of air strut failure is due to damage to the air spring bag. When the air spring is used in the bag for a long time, the rubber will begin to wear and leak, causing the entire air strut to not work properly.
The second factor in air strut failure is the strut itself. The strut is pressurized by fluid, and if the strut starts to fail, it will no longer have the same pressure to hold the vehicle. If this system starts to fail, a telltale sign will be that your vehicle will be below factory height. Failure to replace the air struts in time will result in air suspension compressor failure.
