What do I need to make it work (or what else must I buy)?

You need a compatible non‑contacting proximit­y probe (e.g. 3300 NSv / XL) plus an extension cable, arranged with correct gap to the metallic target (shaft, etc.). The 990 transmitter then conditions that probe signal into a 4–20 mA output for your control / monitoring system. Without a proximit­y

probe + cable, the transmitter alone does nothing useful.

Primarily — it outputs vibration amplitude (peak‑to‑peak). The 4–20 mA loop represents the vibration magnitude as detected by the

proximit­y probe. Additionally: via the “PROX OUT” coaxial connector (non-isolated), you can access the raw

probe signal (gap + dynamic component) to perform diagnostics or further analyses — if you provide

 suitable isolation or use battery‑powered measuring gear.
