1.Auxiliary Drive Shafts: Secures the hydraulic pump or alternator drive pulley to the engine’s front cover shaft. Prevents the pulley from slipping axially, which would break drive belts or damage the pump seal.
2.Timing Gear Train: Locks the crankshaft timing gear or idler gear in place on their respective shafts. Maintains precise gear meshing (critical for valve timing and fuel injection synchronization). A failed ring here could cause gear misalignment, leading to bent valves or piston damage.
3.Camshaft/Balance Shaft Bearings: Retains the outer race of roller bearings on the camshaft or balance shaft. Prevents bearing “walk” (axial movement) that would wear the bearing housing and reduce oil pressure.
