brief introduction of filter mesh for extruder

Extruder screen filters, also known as extruder filter screens, are precision woven filter media mainly made of stainless steel wire, PP monofilament or brass wire. They are cut into round discs and assembled into multi-layer filter packs to install on extruder breaker plates. They serve as core filtration components in plastic, rubber and fiber extrusion lines, intercepting gels, carbon specks, metal debris, undissolved agglomerates and other contaminants in molten raw materials, ensuring clean melt for defect-free finished products. Custom mesh counts, diameters, single-layer or multi-layer composite filter packs are offered to fit single-screw, twin-screw extruders and melt pumps.

Features of plastic extruder black wire mesh filter

Material Performance

  1. Made of food-grade pure PP polypropylene, excellent acid, alkali and chemical corrosion resistance, no reaction with plastic melt.
  2. Good heat resistance, stable working temperature up to 100-120℃, no softening, deformation or toxic precipitation under normal extrusion temperature.
  3. Low melt adhesion, easy to clean residual plastic after use, reusable after simple washing.
  4. Non-toxic, odorless, compliant with food contact plastic production standards.

Weaving & Structural Advantages

  1. Precise plain/twill weaving with uniform aperture, stable filtering precision, effectively blocking tiny impurities. Mesh counts range from 20 mesh to 300 mesh to meet different filtration requirements.
  2. Smooth surface without burrs, no fiber shedding to pollute plastic melt.
  3. Good tensile strength and pressure resistance, not easy to break under continuous melt pressure inside extruder.
  4. Can be cut into round filter discs directly matching extruder breaker plates; multi-layer combined mesh packs (coarse + fine mesh) for graded filtration.
  5. Lightweight, easy to replace and install on extrusion machine filter holders.

Cost & Practical Advantages

  1. Lower cost than stainless steel filter mesh for low-temperature plastic extrusion lines.
  2. Short replacement cycle operation, quick disassembly to improve production efficiency.
  3. No metal particle shedding risk, avoids black spots and metal speck defects on plastic films, sheets and injection parts.

Applications of plastic extrusion filters

Plastic Extrusion Industry (Core Usage)

  • Film extrusion: PP film, plastic wrapping film, agricultural mulch film, food packaging film melt filtration.
  • Sheet & board extrusion: PP plastic sheet, plastic panel, plastic geomembrane production filtration.
  • Pipe extrusion: PP-R water pipes, plastic drainage pipes, plastic profile extruder filter screens.
  • Injection molding: Filter impurities in molten plastic before entering mold to reduce product blemishes.

Textile Plastic Fiber Production

  • PP spunbond nonwoven fabric, meltblown fabric, plastic fiber spinning melt filtration to remove gel blocks.

Food Grade Plastic Production

  • Disposable plastic tableware, food containers, plastic straws, food packaging raw material purification filtration.

Chemical & Environmental Industry

  • Filtering low-temperature chemical liquid, weak acid/alkali solution; waste water plastic particle recovery filtration.
