High frequency litz wire is used in transformers and chokes to reduce the power losses that occur due to the eddy current and reduce the skin effect. Insulation of copper wires is made of polyurethane. This fact makes it easy to tin terminals of winding. Usually litz wire is supplied in round cross-section. However it can be profiled and made in square or rectangular cross section to optimize the winding area.
