    A redox system used in water treatment, mainly the reduction of chromic acid and the oxidation of cyanide. If two sodium sulphide or sulfur dioxide is added to the waste water, six valence chromium ions can be turned into trivalent chromium. If added chlorine or sodium hypochlorite can be used to oxidize cyanide, followed by hydrolysis of cyanogen chloride to form cyanate. This chemical reaction is called a redox reaction system. Oxidation-reduction potential is the measurement of electronic activity, which is similar to the method of measuring hydrogen ion activity
