UL1666 CMR Vertical Shaft Cable Tray Fire Test Chamber for Flame Retardant Cable Certification
The SL-1666 CMR cable test chamber reproduces the burning condition of multiple cables vertically installed in a ventilated shaft and evaluates their flame retardant performance in accordance with UL 1666. Passing results are rated as CMR grade.
Multiple specimens are laid on a vertical shaft and a burner with a heat release of 154.5 kW is applied for 30 minutes. The pass criterion: flame shall not propagate to the upper part of the 12 ft high room and the temperature shall not exceed 454.4°C. Smoke density is not included in this test.
Combustion Test Chamber

Air Supply System
- 1.5 kW centrifugal fan providing the standard-required test air volume
- Taiwan Taian frequency inverter to regulate fan speed and control chamber air volume
- Bidirectional flow meter with thermocouple and micro differential pressure sensor to measure and display incoming air flow
Ignition Source
- Burner: 1/2 inch steel burner head with a 6.4 mm steel flame spread plate, CNC machined to standard dimensions
- Ignition: silicon nitride igniter, 24 V, heats to 800-1000°C within tens of seconds; software controlled
Gas Supply System
- Gas train includes Japan Ito Mirai pressure reducing valve, Taiwan Yataike solenoid valve, gas check valve, Italy Guilong gas filter, Taiwan Yataike oil-water separator and US ALICAT gas mass flow controller, mounted in a metal grid control cabinet
- Mass flow controller: US ALICAT, range 0-3.5 g/s, accuracy ±0.8%, 0-5 V output, software settable
- Burning time and other parameters set through the software
Computer Data Acquisition System
Taiwan Advantech acquisition boards: ADAM-4520, ADAM-4117, ADAM-4118 x2, with OMRON controller CP1H-XA40DR-A and temperature module CP1W-TS004. Visualization: displays 8 thermocouples on the second layer and 1 on the first layer, automatically judges whether the chamber temperature meets the requirement before testing, and displays air velocity and exhaust velocity.
