How Carbonless Copy Paper Works
- The paper surface is coated with microcapsules containing colorless dye (5-20 micrometers diameter)
- Adjacent sheets are coated with acidic developer (latent color developer)
- Writing or printing pressure causes the microcapsules to rupture
- Colorless dye contacts the acidic developer, triggering an acid-base color development reaction
- Blue, black, red and other colors appear instantly, forming carbonless copies
