The price of 2205 dual phase steel is generally higher than that of ordinary ferritic steel, but lower than that of high titanium content alloy. Duplex 2205 products are very resistant to stress corrosion cracking. With this quality, they can be used in high pressure environments. Duplex 2205 pressure vessel material can be used in marine environments, and duplex alloy 2205 for onshore industries is a common choice. Duplex 2205 stainless steel grades have high yield strength and are characterized by their two-phase alloy of chromium, nickel and molybdenum. 2205 stainless steel is the result of continuous revisions in the past and was standardized in 1996. It is very strong in the temperature range of -50 degrees Celsius to 300 degrees Celsius. The material precipitates above this temperature range and becomes brittle below this range. Therefore, it cannot be used in cryogenic conditions or at melting temperature. Duplex material 2205 has great resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking in addition to the low temperature range.
