Taking the mainstream disc brake system as an example, the working process of the brake caliper can be divided into 4 steps:

Signal Transmission and Hydraulic Pressure Generation
When the driver presses the brake pedal, the pedal pushes the piston of the master brake cylinder, which generates hydraulic pressure in the brake fluid inside the master cylinder. This hydraulic pressure is transmitted to the hydraulic chamber of the brake caliper through the brake lines.

Piston-driven Brake Pad Clamping
Hydraulic pressure acts on the piston inside the brake caliper. Under pressure, the piston extends outward and pushes the inner brake pad to move toward the brake disc. At the same time, for floating brake calipers, the reaction force of the hydraulic pressure drives the caliper body to move in the opposite direction, making the outer brake pad fit the brake disc as well.

Friction Braking for Deceleration
The brake pads on both sides clamp the rotating brake disc, converting the kinetic energy of the vehicle into thermal energy through frictional resistance to achieve vehicle deceleration or stop.

Brake Release and Reset
When the driver releases the brake pedal, the pressure in the hydraulic chamber dissipates. The piston resets under the elastic force of the sealing ring, the brake pads separate from the brake disc, and the braking is released.
