The on-board compressor delivers power to a pneumatic reciprocating piston. The piston drives a tungsten-steel drill bit specifically designed to crush hard rock.

Similar to air core drilling, drill cuttings are returned to surface inside rods through dual wall drill rods: an outer drill rod with an inner tube. Compressed air blown through the rod displaces the air, lifting samples to the surface.

Cuttings reach a diverter at the top of the hole, then move through a hose around the cyclone to slow the sample. The sample then passes over a splitter that delivers a percentage into a sample bag. Exploration teams collect samples aligned to hole depth for client logging and lab transport.
