Product Description
Tapered roller bearings are a type of rolling element bearing commonly used in various applications, including automotive, industrial, and heavy machinery. They are designed to handle both radial and axial loads by utilizing tapered rolling elements (called rollers) that are guided by inner and outer raceways.
Tapered roller bearings can be used individually (single bearing arrangement) or in pairs (double bearing arrangement). In a double bearing arrangement, the bearings are mounted in opposite directions to balance the axial loads. This configuration enhances load-carrying capacity and axial stiffness.
Tapered roller bearings often feature a cage that separates and guides the rollers. The cage maintains proper spacing between the rollers, prevents contact between adjacent rollers, and improves overall bearing performance. Common cage materials include steel, brass, or synthetic materials like polyamide.
In certain applications, tapered roller bearings may be preloaded to minimize internal clearance and eliminate any play between the rolling elements. Preloading ensures that the bearings operate with minimal axial movement, improving stiffness and precision in applications that require tight tolerances or high-speed operation.
