Core Insert Molding, also known as encapsulation or multi-material molding (MMM), can be carried out in several ways. Smaller encapsulations may be placed into the mold and molded around via traditional processes. Special variations on traditional molding are used when particularly large mold core inserts, high quantities of inserts, or multiple dissimilar materials are required for a part. The three most common varieties of core insert molding are multi-component injection molding, multi-shot injection molding, and overmolding.
