【MALARIA INTRODUCTION】

Malaria is caused by a parasite that is transmitted from one person to person by the bite of infected Anopheles mosquitoes: P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae and P. knowlesi. Rapid and accurate diagnosis is essential for efficient prevention and prompt treatment of malaria. If reliable diagnostic testing were thoroughly applied to every suspected case, the number of malaria cases requiring treatment can be determined and effective treatment can be administered while avoiding the unnecessary use of expensive anti-malarial drugs.

【RAPID TEST OPERATION】

Allow the test strip, specimen, buffer, and/or controls to equilibrate to room temperature (15-30°C) prior to testing.

1. Remove the test strip from the foil pouch and use it as soon as possible. Best results will be obtained if the assay is performed within one hour.

2. Place the test strip on a clean and level surface. Transfer the specimen by a pipette or a disposable specimen pipette:

To use a Disposable Specimen Pipette: Hold the pipette vertically; draw the specimen up to the Fill Line. Transfer the specimen to Purple Reaction Pad of the test strip, then add 3~4 full drops of buffer to Sample Pad and start the timer.

Avoid trapping air bubbles in Reaction Pad.

3. Wait for the colored line(s) to appear. The result should be read at 15 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 20 minutes

【MALARIA PF/PV TEST RESULT INTERPRETATION】

Positive: The presence of two color band (“T1”and “C”) indicates a positive result for a infection with P. falciparum. The presence of two color bands (“T2” and “C”) indicates a positive result for infection with P. vivax (c). The presence of three color bands (“T1”, “T2” and “C”) indicates a positive result for “mixed” infection.

Negative: One coloured line appears in the control line region(C). No line appears in the test line region (T)

Invalid: No visible band at all or test band without control band.
