Product Introduction
Alloy 317L (UNS S31703) is a low carbon corrosion resistant austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel. The high levels of these elements ensure superior chloride pitting and general corrosion resistance compared to traditional grades 304/304L and 316/316L. In strong corrosive environments with sulfur-containing media, chlorides and other halides, this alloy offers enhanced corrosion resistance relative to 316L.
The low carbon content of 317L alloy makes it free of intergranular corrosion caused by chromium carbide precipitation during welding, making it suitable for use in welded applications. With the addition of nitrogen as a fortifying agent, the alloy can obtain dual certification for Alloy 317 (UNS S31700).
Applications
Compared with 316L, 317L steel offers superior seawater resistance and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance. It is used in chemical ships, chemical product reactors, and other chemical equipment requiring high corrosion resistance.
