Assembly Process
Gabion sections assemble into upright square or rectangular baskets using lacing wire or helical fasteners. Proper connection of basket panels and inter-basket linking ensures structural integrity, with helical fasteners typically offering quicker installation than traditional lacing wire.
Installation Guide
Step 1: Foundation Preparation
Clear loose soil and vegetation from the installation area, then lay geogrid on the prepared foundation.
Step 2: First Gabion Box Placement
Assemble the gabion box and position it securely on the geogrid foundation.
Step 3: Stone Filling
Fill baskets with stones ranging from 4\" to 6\" in size, using smaller stones to fill gaps and ensure dense packing.
Step 4: Lid Closure
Tie all four sides of the lid to adjacent panels, then securely fasten individual gabion boxes together using high-tensile strength binding wire.
Step 5: Additional Stories
For upright walls, align subsequent stories directly above the first. For stepped walls, offset each upper story approximately 500mm inward from the one below.
Hydrological Benefits
The porous structure of gabion walls facilitates efficient water drainage, reducing groundwater pressure behind the wall and minimizing erosion risks. This design provides excellent deformation capacity to absorb external impacts in landslide and debris flow control applications.
