The thermal protection switch is typically installed on A/C compressor housings to prevent compressor damage from overheating caused by internal friction. It monitors compressor case temperature and interrupts the electrical circuit when a predetermined temperature threshold is reached.
Protection Mechanism
The thermal protection switch safeguards against overload conditions. The protection mechanism consists of a bra shaft within a brass tube (commonly called "solder pot relays"), where motor current passes through a small heater winding.
