Thermal protection switch application
The thermal protection switch is normally located on the A/C compressor housings. It is used to prevent compressor damage (overheat) through internal friction. This switch senses the compressor case temperature and once this case temperature reaches a predetermined figure, it interrupts the electrical circuit to the compressor.
How does a thermal protection switch protect against overload?
Thermal protection switch protects against the overload. To create this type of overload, a bra shaft is placed inside a brass tube. In these overload relays (also referred to as "solder pot relays"), the motor current passes through a small heater winding.
