The drilling rod consists of upper and lower joints with a tubular body. The pipe body features a square or hexagonal structure (typically square for oil drilling applications).

The upper joint has a left-handed female thread (reverse thread) for connection to the faucet, preventing loosening during rotation. The lower joint features a right-handed male thread for connection to the drill pipe.

During operation, the upper end remains above the turntable surface while the lower part extends below it.
