Product Description

Wedge Type Guy Anchor | Yokelink

Maximum Holding Power for Solid Rock Installations.
When utility pole guying lines must be anchored into solid rock, standard earth anchors are ineffective. The Yokelink Expanding Rock Anchor is engineered specifically to provide secure, high-tension anchoring in solid rock formations without the absolute need for concrete grouting.

Mechanical Wedge Expansion Technology:
This anchor features a drop-forged Triple or Twin Thimble Eye rod connected to a specialized expanding wedge assembly. Installation is straightforward: drill a hole in the solid rock, insert the anchor, and insert a bar through the eye to turn the rod. As the rod turns, the threaded tapered plug is drawn upward, forcing the ribbed wedges to expand outward and bite aggressively into the walls of the drilled rock hole.

Manufactured from high-tensile carbon steel and fully Hot Dip Galvanized to ASTM A153, the Yokelink Rock Anchor provides a permanent, corrosion-resistant guying point capable of withstanding extreme overhead line tension.

Key Technical Features of Expanding Rock Anchor

Application: Designed exclusively for guying in solid rock.

Mechanism: Ribbed expanding wedges provide an immediate mechanical grip.

Eye Design: Integral Drop-Forged Thimble Eye prevents guy wire damage.

Efficiency: Fast installation; turning the rod expands the anchor instantly.

Finish: Heavy-duty Hot Dip Galvanizing protects against underground moisture.

Production Process of Expanding Rock Anchor Rod

Material Preparation: Select high-strength alloy steel or carbon steel round bar, then straighten and cut to fixed length.
Machining & Forming: Process the rod body, machine the expansion slot, wedge, and cone structure by lathe or CNC.
Thread Rolling: Roll accurate threads on the rod end for connection and installation.
Heat Treatment: Quench and temper to improve tensile strength, hardness and impact resistance.
Deburring & Finishing: Remove burrs and ensure smooth surface for better expansion fit.
Surface Treatment: Hot-dip galvanizing or electro-galvanizing according to ASTM A153 for anti-corrosion.
Assembly & Inspection: Assemble expansion components, then inspect dimensions, hardness, coating and mechanical performance.

Yokelink Quality Control and Testing Equipments

We don't just reference standards; we also verify them in practice: each batch of products undergoes destructive tensile testing in our internal laboratory to ensure load performance exceeds the minimum requirements of IEEE C135.2 or CSA C83 specification; we use optical comparators to ensure the geometric accuracy of chamfered tips and rolled threads, enabling convenient on-site installation; at the same time, we conduct comprehensive testing on Rockwell hardness, coating thickness, and other parameters, and each shipment is accompanied by the original manufacturer's material specifications (MTRs) and quality inspection reports, with all data traceable back to the raw material furnace number.

The Application of Expanding Rock Anchor Rod

Expanding rock anchor rods are widely used in power transmission projects, slope reinforcement, and rock mass anchoring. They are specially designed to fix structures in rock formations, providing strong pull-out resistance by expanding the wedge into rock cracks during installation. Made of high-strength steel and surface-treated for corrosion resistance, they withstand harsh outdoor and rock environments. Compliant with IEEE C135.1 and ASTM standards, they ensure stable, reliable anchoring for power poles, transmission towers, and slope protection projects.

Yokelink Product Quality Inspection Report

We provide comprehensive inspection services for machine bolts, including SGS test bolts and formal Production Part Inspect Report (PPIR). The SGS tests verify the bolts’ compliance with international standards like ASTM A307 and IEEE C135.80, covering mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The PPIR details all inspection items, ensuring each machine bolt meets dimensional, performance and quality requirements, providing reliable quality assurance for overhead line and industrial applications.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: How does an Expanding Rock Anchor hold tension without concrete or grout?

A: The holding power comes entirely from mechanical friction and wedging action. At the bottom of the rod is a tapered plug surrounded by two or three ribbed steel wedges. When you turn the anchor rod, the plug moves up the threads, forcing the wedges outward. The ribs on the wedges bite intensely into the walls of the drilled rock hole, creating a secure lock that resists massive pull-out forces.

Q2: What happens if the drilled rock hole is too large?

A: Precision drilling is critical. If the hole diameter is even slightly larger than the manufacturer's specification (e.g., drilling a 2" hole for a 1-3/4" rock anchor), the wedges will reach their maximum expansion limit before they can firmly grip the rock walls. The anchor will simply slip out when tension is applied. Always use the exact drill bit size required.

Q3: Can I use an Expanding Rock Anchor in cracked or weathered rock?

A: It is highly discouraged. Mechanical rock anchors require solid, unyielding rock to push against. If the rock is fractured, weathered, or soft (like shale), the pressure of the expanding wedges will simply crack the rock further, resulting in anchor failure. In fractured rock conditions, grouted anchors are generally required.

Q4: Do I need to grout a mechanical expanding rock anchor after installation?

A: While the mechanical expansion provides the primary holding power, many utility specifications require the drilled hole to be filled with grout after the anchor is expanded. Grouting serves two purposes: it prevents water from pooling in the hole and freezing (which could fracture the rock), and it adds a secondary layer of severe corrosion protection for the galvanized rod.

Q5: How do you know when the rock anchor is fully expanded and secure?

A: During installation, you insert a heavy bar through the forged eye of the anchor and turn it clockwise. You will feel increasing resistance as the wedges dig into the rock. The anchor is fully set when the rod can no longer be turned by the bar under normal manual force, ensuring the wedges are solidly locked against the rock walls.
