Product Description

Cast Square Curved Washer HDG | Ductile Iron Utility Washer | IEEE C135.80 & CSA C83

Ultimate Load Distribution for Heavy Transmission Poles.
When standard stamped washers bend under the extreme tension of transmission line construction, the Yokelink Cast Square Curved Washer is the definitive solution. Engineered for the most demanding heavy-duty utility applications, these cast washers provide an unyielding, rigid bearing surface against wood poles.

Rugged Cast Construction:
Manufactured from premium Malleable Iron (ASTM A47) or Ductile Iron (ASTM A536), our cast washers are significantly thicker than standard steel washers and often feature an engineered ribbed design for maximum structural integrity. The concave face perfectly matches the contour of round timber poles, distributing massive bolt loads evenly to prevent wood crushing and hardware failure.

Fully Hot Dip Galvanized to ASTM A153 standards, these cast curved washers are built to outlast the utility poles they secure, offering unparalleled corrosion resistance in severe environments.

Key Features of Cast Square Curved Washer

Manufacturing: Heavy-duty ASTM A536 cast iron construction prevents bending or cupping.

Profile: Concave (curved) back to snugly fit round wood utility poles.

Material: Available in high-strength ASTM A47 Malleable Iron or ASTM A536 Ductile Iron.

Durability: Heavily Hot Dip Galvanized for maximum rust prevention.

Application: Essential for dead-ending, guying, and heavy transmission lines.

Production Process of Cast Square Curved Washer

Yokelink Cast square curved washers are mainly produced by casting process. First, mold making and core making are completed according to product dimensions. Molten steel is poured into the mold cavity to form the casting blank. After cooling, the blank is cleaned, shot blasted, and heat treated to improve strength. Then it is hot-dip galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153 or ASTM A123 for corrosion resistance.

Yokelink Quality Control and Testing Equipments

We don't just reference standards; we also verify them in practice: each batch of products undergoes destructive tensile testing in our internal laboratory to ensure load performance exceeds the minimum requirements of IEEE C135.1 / IEEE C135.80 or CSA C83 specification; we use optical comparators to ensure the geometric accuracy of chamfered tips and rolled threads, enabling convenient on-site installation; at the same time, we conduct comprehensive testing on Rockwell hardness, coating thickness, and other parameters, and each shipment is accompanied by the original manufacturer's material specifications (MTRs) and quality inspection reports, with all data traceable back to the raw material furnace number.

The Application of Cast Square Curved Washer

utility pole crossarm (2)

Cast square curved washers are specially designed for overhead transmission and distribution lines, pole hardware, cross arms and insulator assemblies. Their unique curved surface provides perfect matching with spherical or tapered components, ensuring uniform stress distribution and stable fastening. Made of cast steel with high strength and hot-dip galvanized per ASTM A153, they offer excellent corrosion resistance. Fully compliant with IEEE C135.1 and IEEE C135.80 standards, they are widely used in high-reliability power line connections.

Yokelink Product Quality Inspection Report

We provide comprehensive inspection services for machine bolts, including SGS test bolts and formal Production Part Inspect Report (PPIR). The SGS tests verify the bolts’ compliance with international standards like ASTM A307 and IEEE C135.80, covering mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The PPIR details all inspection items, ensuring each machine bolt meets dimensional, performance and quality requirements, providing reliable quality assurance for overhead line and industrial applications.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the difference between a stamped curved washer and a cast curved washer?

A: A stamped curved washer is pressed from carbon steel sheet metal and is suitable for standard distribution pole applications. A cast curved washer is made from molten malleable or ductile iron. It is significantly thicker, more rigid, and cannot be bent out of shape. Cast washers are used in heavy-duty transmission line applications where extreme bolt tension would cause a stamped washer to collapse or flatten.

Q2: Are Yokelink cast washers made of cast iron, malleable iron, or ductile iron?

A: We use either Malleable Iron (per ASTM A47) or Ductile Iron (per ASTM A536) for our cast utility hardware. Standard "gray cast iron" is too brittle for poleline use. Malleable and ductile iron undergo special thermal and metallurgical processes that give them excellent yield strength and impact resistance, ensuring they won't crack under high clamping forces.

Q3: Why do some cast curved washers have ribs on them?
utility pole line hardware

A: The engineered ribs (or raised edges) on the back of a cast washer provide additional structural reinforcement. These ribs increase the section modulus of the washer, allowing it to withstand massive compressive loads (such as heavy guying or dead-end applications) without adding unnecessary weight to the hardware assembly.

Q4: Why are curved washers used on wooden utility poles?

A: Curved washers are designed to match the round surface of wooden utility poles. When installed with machine bolts or crossarm bolts, the curved shape distributes the clamping force over a larger area, helping prevent the bolt head or nut from crushing the wood fibers. This improves load distribution, maintains bolt tension, and increases the long-term stability of pole line hardware connections in overhead transmission and distribution systems.

Q5. What is the "Radius of Curvature" of the cast square curved washer? How does it ensure perfect load distribution?

A: The core of a curved washer's performance lies in its fit. Yokelink's cast curved washers feature a precise concave profile specifically designed for standard North American wood poles. Taking the 3"x3" (A16C20) and 4"x4" (A16C30) as examples, their engineered radius of curvature tightly fits mainstream load-bearing round timber poles with diameters ranging from 6 to 14 inches. This design maximizes the contact area between the hardware and the wood pole. When used in heavy-tension dead-ending applications with IEEE C135.1 high-strength machine bolts, it evenly distributes the ultimate tensile load, completely eliminating stress concentration and preventing the wood surface from being crushed or damaged.
