Yokelink Square / Hex Head Lag Screws are essential poleline fasteners designed to secure ground wires, guy hooks, and secondary clevises directly to wooden utility poles. Manufactured from high-quality carbon steel, these robust screws provide excellent holding power without the need to drill completely through the pole.
 
We offer both standard Gimlet Point threads for traditional wrench installation, and Fetter Drive threads. The fetter drive design features a sharp, specialized thread profile that allows the lineman to drive the screw deep into the wood with a hammer, and then securely seat it with a final turn of a wrench—saving critical installation time. Lag screws are manufactured from ASTM A307 carbon steel. After straightening and cutting, the material is formed by cold heading to create the hexagonal head. The shank is then processed by thread rolling to form sharp, durable lag threads for wood and heavy construction. Heat treatment ensures mechanical strength. All products are hot-dip galvanized per ASTM A153. Production and inspection comply with IEEE C135.1 and IEEE C135.80, suitable for heavy fastening applications.

4.Q: What is the difference between a Fetter Drive and a Gimlet Point lag screw?

A: A standard Gimlet Point lag screw has a tapered, threaded point and must be twisted (screwed) into the wood for its entire length. A Fetter Drive lag screw has specially angled threads that allow a lineman to hammer the screw most of the way into the utility pole, and then use a wrench only for the final tightening. This significantly speeds up installation on the pole.

5.Q: Why do utility lag screws use a square head instead of a hex head?

A: Square heads provide a larger bearing surface for the wrench. When a lineman is working high up on a utility pole wearing heavy safety gloves, the classic four-sided square head is much easier to engage securely with a standard wrench without stripping or slipping compared to a hex head.
