HNB Wrapping Film
PLA is one of the biodegradable polymers, which are suitable for making biaxially oriented films. BOPLA films are widely used on flexible packaging applications, as alternative to BOPP. Typically, BOPLA films are transparent with a high clarity and high gloss. In some packaging applications, this is desirable for printing graphics with high visual appeal and to provide high resolution of the desired images. PLA, being a polar polymer, naturally has a high surface energy that helps enable good wettability of the types of printing inks and colors used in packaging. In addition, multilayer BOPLA films can be formed via coextrusion of several melt streams of PLA-based polymers. One example could be a two-layer coextruded film structure in which a base or core layer including a crystalline PLA and a thinner “skin” layer including amorphous PLA is coextruded upon one side of the core layer and then biaxially oriented into a film. The amorphous PLA layer is often used to provide heat sealability to the film as it is less crystalline and generally has a lower Tm than the higher crystallinity core layer .
Optical properties and applications
Although the human eye is the best tool for evaluating the optical performance of thin films, visual control alone is not enough, because lighting conditions, observer mood, and quantitative control all have an impact.
In order to achieve reliable quality assurance, objective and measurable parameters are needed to quantify the appearance. Glossiness and haze are two important indicators of quantitative optical properties of BOPP films.
Haze, also known as transparency, measures the percentage of light that is larger than a certain Angle from the direction of the incoming light.
Through the film, the narrow Angle scattering is more clear, the scattering Angle will cause less contrast and hazy, the lower fog can show the clear and bright logo of the cigarette bag.
Glossiness is the visual impression obtained when assessing the film surface.
The more light reflected directly from the surface of the film, the higher the gloss.
A highly concentrated reflection of light from a high-gloss surface can clearly reflect the image, while a low-gloss surface can diffuse light in all directions, reducing the image quality and rendering the reflected object no longer bright but fuzzy.
Higher gloss will give the cigarette pack a bright visual effect.
