Radial Shock Absorber Vertical Shock Absorber for Drill Stem Testing

In oil well drill stem testing operation, the shock absorber as the part of the DST tool string is designed for two types: Radial shock absorber and Vertical shock absorber. The radial shock absorber protect pressure-measuring equipment or sensitive components in the workstring for shock loads transmitted through the workstring by firing of TCP guns. It can also help straighten the workstring.The vertical shock from axial slide can be transferred to the vertical shock absorber, a part of shock will be absorbed by axial slide movement and the shear pin effect, so that the condition of radial shock absorber component and inner-wall tubing are relative stable.

Normally the radial shock absorber use with the vertical shock absorber together and it is always located below the vertical shock absorber. In radial shock absorbers, spring-loaded drag blocks absorb radial shock waves transmitted through the TCP perforating.

Maintenance attention of the shock absorber

1. After finishing test each time, the radial shock absorber and vertical shock absorber should be taken apart completely and washed clearly, replacing all the O-rings and damaged Back-up Rings. Checking all the sealing surfaces and threads, all the damaged parts should be replaced because that they would have bad influence upon the tool.

2. Make sure you have an instruction manual, a maintenance check sheet, and the appropriate assembly drawing at your workstation before beginning the job.

3. Make sure use the high temperature o-ring in the high temperature well and H2S condition.
