Why Should You Use Ultrasonic Denture Cleaner?

As we age, oral care becomes even more important. And you need to take especially good care of your mouth if you wear dentures.

But isn’t brushing enough?

While brushing is an important piece of the oral health puzzle, it’s not enough for denture wearers. Research has found higher yeast and lactobacilli counts in older subjects— even more so in older denture wearers.

You don’t have to read the study or know what lactobacilli is to get the point:

Bacteria cause decay and bad breath (and potentially much worse). And while it helps to brush your dentures well before placing them in an ultrasonic bath, no toothbrush is going to remove all of the bacteria hiding away in your dentures.

Just like your real teeth, dentures have tiny pores that the bristles of your brush simply can’t reach into. Denture specific toothbrushes are great, but this is true for them too. You need a liquid to penetrate the cracks.

How To Use Ultrasonic Denture Cleaner?

First, and foremost, make sure your false teeth are thoroughly brushed. This is still the best way to get rid of large and visible debris.

Fill the tank of the device with water. There is no need to get fancy here, tap water will do the work just fine. In addition, some manufacturers include chemical solutions in the form of tablets. All you have to do, is place the tablet in the water tank, and wait for it to dissolve.

• Soap could be a cheaper alternative to those tablets. Especially, if the model you have purchased does not come with a chemical solution.

Next, you need to place your dentures in the already filled with water tank, and make sure that they are fully submerged.

Based on the brand and model, select a cycle, turn the device on, and let it run. In most cas,es 5 minutes are enough to clean false teeth.

Once the cycle has ran its course, turn off the unit. Also, it is a good idea to rinse the dentures truly, especially if you opted in to use the chemical tablets.

Word of caution: In theory, the continuous use of an ultrasonic device to clean two dentures at the same time, could result in their wear and tear. That is, if both the lower and upper dentures are simultaneously cleaned. The fast vibrations can cause the two parts to rub against each-other, therefore, causing them to slowly deteriorate.

However, the wear that will be experienced over time is quite minor. To completely avoid this possibility, clean each denture separately.
