Invar 36 (4J36/UNS K93600) is a specialized nickel-iron-chromium alloy engineered for applications requiring exceptional dimensional stability across temperature variations. This precision material maintains minimal thermal expansion, making it ideal for critical components in temperature-sensitive environments.

Invar 36 demonstrates excellent resistance to general corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion in various chemical environments including chlorides, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and nitric acid solutions.

Recommended forging temperature range: 2000-2150°F (1100-1180°C). Minimum forging temperature: 1700-1800°F (925-980°C). Quick heating is advised to minimize exposure to sulfur and oxygen.

For optimal dimensional stability: Heat to 1500°F (815°C), hold 30 minutes per inch of section, water quench, then reheat to 600°F (315°C) for 1 hour and air cool. Standard annealing: 1450°F (790°C) for 30 minutes per section inch with air cooling.

Requires positive feeds and overpowered equipment due to high work-hardening rate. Free-machining variant available with 0.20% selenium content.

Compatible with conventional welding methods for fabrication and assembly.
