1.Description:

Nitronic 50 stainless steel provides a combination of corrosion resistance and strength not found in any other commercial material available in

its price range.This austenitic stainless has corrosion resistance greater than that provided by type 316 and 316L,plus approximately twice the yield strength at room temperature.In additional,Armco Nitronic 50 stainless has very good mechanial properties at both elevated and sub-zero 

temperatures.And,unlike many austenitic stainless steels,nitronic 50 does not become magnetic shen cold worked.

2.Annealing Temperature

Nitronic 50 stainless steel can be supplied annealed at 1950F to 2050F (1066C to 1121C).For most applicaitons,the 1950F(1066c) condition should be selected,as it provides a higher level of mechanical properties along with excellent corrosion resistance.When as-welded materials 

is to be used in strongly corrosive media,the 2050F(1121C) condition should be specified in order to minimize the possibility of intergranular 

attack.

3.Industry Applications:

Automotive valves - can withstand gas temperatures of up to 1500°F for a minimum of 50,000 miles. Fastener galling - capable of frequent assembly and disassembly, allowing more use of the fastener before the threads are torn up, also helps to eliminate corroded or frozen fasteners. Pins - Used in roller prosthetics & chains to ensure a better fit of parts (closer tolerance, nonlubricated) and longer lasting. Marine shafts - better corrosion than types 304 and 316, with double the yield strength. Pin and hanger expansion joints for bridges - better corrosion, galling-resistance, low temperature toughness, & high charpy values at sub-zero temps compared to the A36 and A588 carbon steels commonly used.
