The trunnion ball valve is a quarter-turn valve featuring a hollow, perforated ball that rotates to control flow. The trunnion-mounted design constrains the ball with bearings, allowing only rotation while the system constraints absorb most hydraulic loads. This results in low bearing pressure and eliminates shaft fatigue.

Line pressure drives the upstream seat against the stationary ball, creating a reliable seal. Mechanical anchoring of the ball absorbs thrust from line pressure, preventing excess friction between ball and seats, ensuring low operating torque even at full rated working pressure.
