Check valves open with forward flow and automatically return to close against reverse flow. The primary function is to protect mechanical equipment, particularly pumps, where back flow can damage internal components. Check valves are categorized according to how the closure member moves onto the seat.
Swing check valves feature a flat disc that pivots or swings about a hinge pin. These valves offer low cost operation and minimal head loss characteristics when fully open. Due to the long stroke and disc inertia, traditional swing check valves may require lever and weight accessories in vertical pipe installations. These valves effectively handle liquids containing solids, making them ideal for wastewater applications.
