The Science of Preservation

Creams, especially those with active ingredients like Vitamin C, retinol, peptides, and antioxidants, are vulnerable to two main enemies:

1. Air (Oxidation): Every time you open the jar, air enters and reacts with the active ingredients, breaking them down and making them less effective. This is why some creams change color or smell over time.

2. Bacteria & Contaminants: Introducing bacteria from your fingers creates a breeding ground inside the jar. This can not only spoil the product but also lead to skin irritation, breakouts, or infections.

Using a spatula and keeping the jar sealed dramatically slows down both of these processes.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• "Double-Dipping": Never put a used finger or spatula back into the jar. This is the fastest way to contaminate the entire product.

• Using with Wet Hands: Introducing water into the cream can dilute preservatives and encourage microbial growth.

• Leaving the Lid Off: Don't leave the jar open while you apply the product. Close it immediately after scooping.

• Storing in a Hot/Humid Environment: Heat and humidity accelerate the degradation of active ingredients and promote bacteria growth.
