Austenitic Type Stainless Steel

Nitrogen-Alloyed Martensitic Stainless Steels

Though PER is expensive, lower but nitrogen contents have been achieved by argon oxygen decarburization process.

Replacing some carbon in martensitic stainless steels by nitrogen is a recent development. The limited solubility of nitrogen can be increased by the pressure electroslag refining process, in which melting is carried out. Steel containing up to 0.411% nitrogen is achieved, lead higher hardness and higher corrosion resistance.
