Properties:

Yttria-stabilized zirconia has superior mechanical strength, Vickers hardness, compressive strength, fracture toughness, lower thermal conductivity (only 4 W/m.k at room temperature) than alumina ceramic parts, great flexural strength more than 2 times higher than alumina ceramic parts, as well as nearly zero dielectric constant. Accordingly, it is wear resistant, and high-pressure resistant and insoluble in weak acid or alkaline solution, let alone normal water or medical fluid.

Yttria-stabilized zirconia provides such benefits as substantial increase shaft life by reducing abrasion, significant reduction in noise (in most cases), USDA approval for contact with food products.
