Yttria-stabilized zirconia ceramics has many advantages over metal materials, as shown below:

• Low coefficient of friction
• High material thermal stability, very low CTE offering dimensional stability
• Alumina, being chemically inert and insulating, avoids both electrochemical and electrolytic action.
Because of the above advantages, Yttria-stabilized zirconia provides such benefits as substantial increase service life of shafts by reducing abrasion, significant reduction in noise and corrosion resistance (in most cases). Also, USDA has approved it for contact with food products. Although the price is nearly three times higher than alumina ceramics, Yttria-stabilized zirconia is still a better material option than alumina ceramics in the fields of food &beverage industry and automobile industry.
