Front-End Flat Solid Carbide Punch with Wear and Corrosion Resistance for ±0.002mm Contour Repeatability and Up to 600°C Operating Temperature
This product is specifically designed for high-precision metal stamping, precision electronic connector punching, and high-wear applications. It utilizes ultra-fine grain cemented carbide substrate combined with a front-end flat (D-cut or flat positioning) design. This structure ensures ultra-high hardness at the cutting edge while solving the common problem of traditional round punches rotating under heavy loads, which leads to edge chipping. The flat design provides precise angular orientation, ensuring consistent punching direction in multi-station dies.
The unique front-end flat structure (single flat or double symmetrical flats), combined with the flat clamping surface, completely eliminates punch rotation under high-frequency impact. This is critical for irregular hole punching (such as rectangular, oval, or complex shapes), ensuring a contour repeatability of up to ±0.002mm.
- Material: Made from virgin tungsten carbide powder (WC-Co), with cobalt content adjustable from 6% to 15% based on working conditions.
- Hardness: HRA 89°-93° (HV 1600-1900).
- Performance: When used in high-speed stamping (stroke > 800 SPM) or punching abrasive materials like stainless steel or glass fiber-reinforced plastics, the service life is 20-50 times longer than high-speed steel (SKH-51/M42) punches.
Using gradient sintering technology, the punch maintains good fracture toughness (KIC) on the inside, avoiding brittle fracture caused by lateral forces. This is especially beneficial for the thin-walled "flat step" transition zone.
| Parameter | Standard Range / Options | Remarks / Tolerance |
|---|---|---|
| Flat Angle Type | Single Parallel Flat / 90° Vertical Flat / 180° Symmetrical Double Flat | Flatness ≤ 0.002 mm |
| Cutting Edge Shape | Round, Shaped (Square/Oval/Toothed) | Mirror polished / Sharp edge with micro-radius |
| Grade Material | YG6X, YG8, YG10X, YG15, KD20 (Imported) | Selected based on stamping material |
| Surface Coating | TiN (Gold) / AlTiN (Bronze) / No Coating | Reduces friction coefficient to 0.4 |
| Concentricity | ≤ 0.003 mm | Between shank and cutting edge |
- Precision Electronics: Terminal pins, connector contacts, IC lead frame stamping (prevents breakage of ultra-fine flat sections).
- Automotive Manufacturing: Airbag initiators, sensor housing shaped-hole punching.
- Precision Dies: High-life progressive dies for punching and blanking operations.
- Special Materials: Punching magnetic materials, graphite, ceramic green bodies, and other hard/brittle materials.
- Installation: Clean the clamping surface before installation. Ensure the flat plane aligns precisely with the die set's dowel pin direction. Do not hammer forcibly.
- Clearance Fit: Recommended die clearance is 5%-8% of material thickness (carbide is very sensitive to stamping clearance).
- Edge Dulling: Even minimal chipping requires immediate resharpening. Use diamond grinding wheels only (green silicon carbide is ineffective).
- Rust Prevention: While tungsten carbide itself does not rust, the binder (cobalt) can corrode. Apply protective oil if the machine is idle for extended periods.
