During the setting out process, the hide is conveyed on blades fitted cylinders which stretches and smoothen the hide before going through two felts which are removing the moisture excess. The continuous setting out machines called through feed setting out machines.

 The setting out felts has a special surface treatment that optimizes the stretching effect.
