Say you're at the hair salon looking over the color treatment service menu and you get a little puzzled: should you get a single-process color, or should you go for the double-process color? To make that decision, you need to know what the difference is between the two color treatments.

Ahead, we're breaking down what a single- and a double-process color do to your hair, so you can pick the right one for you.

Single-process will probably take a little less time and save you a few money.

PREPARATION

Mix one part of hair color cream with one part of oxidizing cream 20, 30 or 40 vol. (the grade of hydrogen peroxide used has effect on the result).
20 vol. developer provides grey hair coverage and coloring in the same tonality.
30 vol. is used for color lightening and on difficult hair.
For extra blonde shades 1:2 mix one part of hair color cream with two parts of oxidizing cream.

FIRST APPLICATION

Evenly spread the prepared coloring mixture on dry, unwashed hair, and leave it on for 30-40 min. Massage softly. Rinse off with plenty of water.

RETOUCH APPLICATION

Evenly spread the prepared coloring mixture on the hair roots and let it process for about 25-35 minutes. When this processing time is over, spread the mixture along the hair's length up to the tips. Allow to process for another 5 min.

SENSITIVITY TEST

Conduct a skin allergy test even if you have already used coloring products before. Clean a skin area the size of a nickel in the bend of your elbow or behind the ear. Apply the mixture to the test area with cotton swab or plastic utensils. After 48 hours, clean the skin area where you conducted the test. If no irritation has occurred during this time, you may proceed to the application of the hair color cream. The absence of reaction to this test is no guarantee that an allergic reaction may not occur as a result of future hair coloring process. However, this test represents an important precaution. Please consult a doctor, if you have any doubts.
