Differences between blades
Circular knife blades for paper cutting are made of high-speed tool steel and come in four styles – smooth beveled edge, wavy scalloped edge,
notched edge and “Euro-slot” edge. Each of them was developed for a specific application, with new blades under constant developments.
The smooth beveled edge blade can cut all types of papers and corraguated because it creates the least amount of dust. However, if you’re
cutting any paper board that has a significant amount of thickness in it, the knife edge will dull quickly. A dull blade requires greater operator force
to cut, meaning the cut must be made more slowly. The ideal applications for a smooth edge knife are cutting industrial usage. Other uses include
large diameter blade .
A wavy scalloped edge knife provides you with a more aggressive cutting action, using the wavy edge to make interrupted cutting contact into the
paper. This interrupted cutting action severs the steel braiding inside requireing less operator pressure during the cut than a smooth edge blade.
Because of this, wavy scalloped edge blades are the most popular blades used by equipment manufacturers or anyone cutting their own hose.
Typically, wavy scalloped blades shine cutting all types of hydraulic, pneumatic, polyurethane, PVC, and thermoplastic hose.
The notched edge and “Euro-slot” designs are really variations on the wavy scalloped edge blades. Each does a great job cutting steel wire
reinforcement in hydraulic hose. The choice between wavy scalloped edge, notched edge or “Euro-slot” edge blades really is a matter of operator
preference.
