T- Mitsubishi / T- MET-SC series exhaust gas turbocharger features:

T- MET33SC compressor impeller (also called compressor wheel) belongs to one part of T- Mitsubishi / T- MET-SC series exhaust gas turbocharger with the design features as below:

  • T- MET33SC is radial type of turbine. Since the 1965 until now, T-MET Series exhaust gas turbochargers has developed y series to meet the market deds, it includes the Axial type and Radial type of turbochargers:

  • The bearing is designed on the inner side of the impeller and turbine blade;
  • The Rotor is supported by a pedestal with less thermal deformation;
  • Bearing pedestal has an interated head tank, by which the lubrication oil is continuously supplied even after than emergency shut down of the engine;
  • The gas inlet casing is double wall structure, which make it easy to check the turbine and nozzle when doing the maintenance;
  • An advanced aerodynamic design for compressor and turbine is adopted in T- MET Series turbochargers;

Improvement of T- MET Compressor Impeller:

T- MET33SC turbo compressor impeller (compressor wheel) description:

  • The compressor wheel / compressor impeller is of aluminium alloy or the more expensive titanium.
  • ufactured from a single casting it is located on the rotor shaft by splines.
  • Aluminium impellers have a limited life, due to creep, which is dictated by the final air temperature.
  • Often the temperature of air leaving the impeller can be as high as 200°C.
  • The life of the impeller under these circumstances may be limited to about 70000 hours.
  • To extend the life, air temperatures must be reduced. One way of achieving this is to draw the air from outside where the ambient air temperature is below that of the engine room.
  • Efficient filtration and separation to remove water droplets is essential and the impeller will have to be coated to prevent corrosion accelerated by the possible presence of salt water.
