Cadmium stearate is a white fine powder, insoluble in water, soluble in hot ethanol, benzene, and turpentine. It is heated and dissolved in an organic solvent and becomes a jelly after cooling, and it decomposes into stearic acid and the corresponding when it encounters strong acid. Used as a light-resistant transparent stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride and other plastics, a smoothing agent, and a transparent softening agent for high-grade rubber products and films.
