Troubleshooting Common Issues

• Pump Won't Dispense (After Priming):

  • Cause: The most common cause is an unreached dip tube. The tube may not be long enough to touch the bottom of the bottle, or the bottle is almost empty and tilted.

  • Fix: Tilt the bottle to pool the product near the dip tube. For a new bottle, ensure the dip tube is attached and reaches the bottom.

• Pump Sputters or Dispenses Foam/Air:

  • Cause: Air is in the pump system. This happens when the bottle is low or the dip tube loses its prime.

  • Fix: Tilt the bottle and pump slowly until liquid is dispensed. Ensure you are pressing the pump all the way down.

• Product is Too Thick and Won't Pump:

  • Cause: The viscosity of the liquid is too high for the pump mechanism.

  • Fix: Try pumping more slowly. Some pumps are specifically designed for thicker creams—you may have the wrong pump type.

• Pump is Clogged:

  • Cause: Dried product has hardened in the nozzle or mechanism.

  • Fix: Remove the pump head and soak it in warm water to dissolve the residue. For oil-based products, a soak in warm soapy water or rubbing alcohol may be needed.

• Pump Locks Itself or Feels Stiff:

  • Cause: Product buildup in the spring or mechanism.

  • Fix: Clean the pump as described above. If it's a twist-lock, ensure you are turning it to the correct position.
