What is Coax cable?
Coax cable is a specific type of multi-conductor cable that carries an internal conductor that is surrounded by an insulating layer which is then surrounded by a conducting shield. This arrangement can vary with some coax cables having more layers and becoming quite complex. The basic concept is that coax cable, also known as coaxial cable, has an inner conductor that carries the signal while the outer conductor prevents signal leakage. The space between the two conductors is occupied by a dielectric insulation where the electric and magnetic fields are restricted. What is the point of all of this? Well, in areas where there is electromagnetic interference, signal disruption becomes a problem. Many cables are not designed to handle that interference and as such, lose their signal strength. To combat this, coax cable is used as it is designed to block out interference while restricting the intended signal to the dielectric material. As complex as it may sound, coax cable is very common and not difficult at all to work with.
