NILO alloy 42 (UNS K94100/W. Nr. 1.3917), a binary nickel-iron alloy containing 42% nickel. It has a low, and nominally constant, coefficient of expansion over the range 20-300°C (85-570°F). It is used for tooling for aerospace composites, thermostat rods, for semiconductor lead frames, in thermostatic bi-metal strip, and for glass sealing applications in microelectronic components, vacuum devices and electric lamp bulbs.

Uses: It is used to make iron-nickel alloy strips, bars, tubes, wires and plates with electrical glass and ceramics. In the electric vacuum industry, the corresponding soft glass is matched and sealed.

In application, the selected sealing material should match the expansion coefficient of the alloy.
The grain size should be controlled during heat treatment to ensure that the material has good deep drawing properties.
