A clutch cover, also known as a pressure plate, is a component of a manual transmission system in vehicles. It is located between the engine and the transmission and is responsible for engaging and disengaging the clutch disc.
The clutch cover works in conjunction with the clutch disc and the flywheel to transfer power from the engine to the transmission. When the clutch pedal is pressed, the clutch cover exerts pressure on the clutch disc, compressing it against the flywheel. This engagement allows power to be transmitted from the engine to the transmission, enabling gear changes and the transfer of torque.
The clutch cover consists of a metal housing that encloses a diaphragm spring mechanism. The diaphragm spring is the primary component responsible for exerting pressure on the clutch disc. When the clutch pedal is released, the diaphragm spring pushes against the clutch disc, releasing it from the flywheel and interrupting the power transmission.
